I call this outfit post: Killing two fashion birds with one burger :P

Why? Well, because on my recent holiday in California, I knew I needed to shoot this look but I also really wanted to eat lunch at In-n-Out, so I decided to merge the two and ta-da, this set of pics is the result!

But, enough about burgers ...

I, much like everyone, have been coveting striped tops lately. But they can be a bit tricky to pull off.

Here are a few of my go-to tips and tricks for wearing stripes:

1. Consider proportion

The old rule of horizontal stripes being a no-no is outdated. While I still wouldn't recommend donning width-wise stripes on a pair of oversized trousers (because, duh!), I don't see anything wrong with a fun left-to-right striped T-shirt. Instead of noting a stripe's direction, consider its proportions. Basically, the smaller the stripe, the easier it will be to wear.

2. Colour play

I LOVE a good black-and-white stripe, but recently, I'm all about white and blue. The pairing is classic and chic — and also super easy to sub in to your wardrobe in place of your go-to tops. I love this Forever 21 iteration because it takes the Banker's Stripe pattern and marries it with a very on-trend silhouette. Thinking of playing with crazy-coloured stripes? Stick to a classic cut so it's the colour that does all the talking versus competing cut and colour.

3. Perfect pairings

Unless you're looking to make a BIG statement (i.e. looking to get street-style photographed at NYFW), I like to pair a striped piece with simple, monochromatic separates. For example, a striped top with classic blue jeans, or wide-leg striped trousers (hello, mile-long legs!) with a chic, mock-neck sleeveless tank. While mixing stripes can be tricky, it's not impossible. Pick two pieces that have complementing colour palettes but varying size and/or direction of stripes for a failsafe take on the daring pairing.

Happy Friday and thank you for stopping by!
