What it is: The iconic Joli Rouge lipstick line from the French beauty brand Clarins gets an update with three different finishes: matte, satin and sheer.
Beauty bonus: The coverage and colour pay off on these lipsticks are very good — one swipe and you are good to go!
Beauty bummer: The Joli Brilliant (the glossy, sheer version) made our lips feel rough. We suspect our lips just didn’t like the formula. Too bad because the sheer, build-able colour is very versatile.
Overall: The finish choices for this line are super- we actually love Clarins Red 742- so to have it come in the same shade but different finishes gives us options!
The matte formula is lightweight with minimal drying. It felt nice on, and wore well, but with multiple applications throughout the day, there was still a mild rough feel to lips. Next time, we'll wipe it off completely and then start again.
Would recommend? The velvet and original, yes. The brilliant, unfortunately not for our lips.
