Benefit Porefessional Pro Balm: A quick review

Benefit Porefessional Pro Balm: A quick review

What it is: Benefit Porefessional Pro Balm is a smoothing balm that helps to reduce the look of pores and fine lines.

Beauty bonus: The silky texture leaves skin feeling velvety and not at all greasy.

Beauty bummer: This balm is good — but it’s not magic. You have to approach this realistically, realizing that pores will not completely disappear.

Overall: This balm feels great on the skin.

We used it alone without foundation over top to get a better feel of whether or not it lived up to its claims.

It did not look cakey or greasy throughout the day. This lightweight cream is billed as a primer as well as a pore minimizer, and by the feel of it (think a little like eyeshadow primer), it would also do a great job keeping foundation looking fresh.

Would recommend? Yes

Camel calling

Vancouver fashion blogger camel outfit how to wear joggers

I've been all about matching tone-on-tone lately.

Case in point: These cool camel joggers paired with a wool coat and simple white add-ons such as a white v-neck tee and classic Vans slip-ons.

I find the look of shades so alluring — and mega chic. Maybe it's all the images I've seen on Instagram and Pinterest of people sporting all-grey looks. And don't even get me started on denim-on-denim.

Consider yourselves warned, I'm going to be getting pretty matchy-matchy in the next few months.

Happy Wednesday and thank you for stopping by!

Full beauty confession: I usually hate getting my hair done.

There's neither a salon horror story in my past nor any good reason, really, for feeling this way.

Except, of course, for the fact that getting my thick, unruly head of hair done usually takes between 2-5 hours to complete —I kid you not — and I absolutely loathe sitting in one place for that long.

Between the colouring, washing, drying and styling — my hair appointments are never an in-and-out thing.  And I always feel so bad for the stylists when me (and my puff-prone hair!) sit down in their chairs for a service.

So, given the above context, it's easy to see why the idea of Schwarzkopf's IGORA Color10 formula, which provides permanent colour in 10 minutes of processing (!!!), appeals to me.

Given my hectic schedule, and my even more hectic hair, the idea that my tresses could be coloured in the time it takes me to paint my nails is nothing short of a miracle.

I had the opportunity to visit Poised Nail Lounge & Spa in Yaletown last week to test out the IGORA Color10 process.

Outfit roundup Topshop jeans Anine Bing boots CHANEL Rouge Coco lipstick

I'm all about finding a routine when it comes to your wardrobe.

I like to think of it as adopting your own personal uniform. And the above items, for me, are some of the closet MVPs that make up my day-to-day, no-brainer looks.

From a great pair of denim such as these Topshop Jaime jeans (which I recently picked up in both black and grey!),  a simple and somewhat cheeky sweatshirt such as this one from Forever 21, and a great pair of boots — which are by my personal favourite Anine Bing — I'm all about padding my wardrobe with classic pieces that work well with a multitude of separates.

I've been leaning more toward bare eyes and look-at-me lips lately, hence the oh-so chic CHANEL Rouge Coco — and if you haven't ever slicked this lipstick on, it's a must-try, trust me.

Finally, how can you go wrong with a structured, carry-all tote such as this one from Gap? Answer: you can't.

And a stylish hat is at the top of my wishlist for spring. In a deliciously deep navy, this Rag and Bone Wide Brim Wool Hat is anything-but ordinary.

Happy Friday and thank you for stopping by!

Top hat

I've always loved hats, but for some reason, I usually feel silly when I wear them.

But despite this downfall, I couldn't help but snap up this two-tone wool hat from H&M when I spotted it in-store.

Truth be told, I saw it earlier this year in a lookbook and mentally earmarked it for spring purchasing ... but, I digress.

Paired with oversized cat-eye frames and a simple turtleneck midi dress, I feel like I look less silly and much more stylish. #success

As I'm sure you've already guessed, these photos weren't taken in Vancouver.

I shot this look during the final day of my recent Southern California trip — which, of course, included a quick trip to Los Angeles.

Having grown up predominately in SoCal (I lived in Orange County from preschool through middle school, and San Diego for university), I've always felt a special connection to the state. But, since moving to Vancouver, I haven't felt the pull to return quite as strong as I did during my last visit.

It may sound odd, but this time, it just felt like ... well, home.

Maybe it was just a pull of nostalgia, the pretty palm trees — or it could have just been the delicious break the trip afforded me from the daily grind.

I mean, I KNOW I'm not the only one that feels like their day goes from 0-60 about 30 seconds after waking up each day.

Some days I don't have the time to curl my hair let alone get my hair coloured. Which is why I'm so excited about a new contest from Schwarzkopf Professional.

In celebration of the company's IGORA COLOR10 hair colour — which gives full-coverage colour in 10 minutes (#believeit!) — Schwarzkopf Professional is giving away a Gift of Time contest.

One lucky winner will receive a $1,500 prize pack including a personal chef for a day (can you even IMAGINE!?), a complimentary IGORA COLOR10 colour service for them and a friend, a $500 prize pack from Schwarzkopf Professional AND a $50 gift card to eLuxe.ca.

Now THAT'S a contest I'd like to win.

To enter, visit www.WinTheGiftOfTime.ca.

Good luck!

Here's another outfit post from my California vacation. See what I meant when I said I was Coachella vibin' when I packed for this trip?

But full fashion confession: I'm OBSESSED with this dress. It's comfortable, chic and the high collar gives it a touch of something unexpected.

I'm quite certain this floral frock will be on heavy repeat in my wardrobe playlist this spring and summer.

Palm Springs — pink lace + video

Vancouver fashion blogger Palm Springs Forever 21 lace crochet dress

I know, I know ... I said that Mondays were going to be for makeup reviews, but I couldn't wait another day to share one of my favourite looks from my recent holiday in Palm Springs.

Call it a So.Cal fashion fever or being Coachella-crazed, but all I wanted to wear during my sun-soaked vacation were festival-inspired frocks like this lace number.

Paired with foot-friendly flatforms and an easy crossbody bag, I was able to explore the holiday hotspot, while forcing my sister to take a few outfit photos of me along the way. :P

The trip, which we took to celebrate my eldest sister's birthday, was such a much-needed break for me. I have been feeling so much anxiety lately about work, my blog, etc., so it was nice to get away from it all for a few days. Clear my head, do some shopping, eat some In N Out burger. You know ...

Check out the video at the bottom of this post for more highlights from our California trip.

Happy Monday and thank you, as always, for stopping by.

Oxford update

women's oxford shirt outfit idea spring 2015

| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |

From metallic sneakers to surf-ready sandals spotted on the streets — Spring 2015 is all about understated updates.

So when my fab fellow fashion blogger Marissa of the San Francisco-based blog Makin' it with Marissa and I decided to put together a pair of posts featuring our favourite closet staple that has been re-imagined for spring, we both quickly agreed on the classic white button-up.

If there's one workhorse in virtually every woman's wardrobe, it's a chic and simple oxford shirt. And this season, the tried-and-true top has been remixed in updates that are making this timeless piece anything but ordinary.

So what's my favourite take on the trend? I'm head over heels for either a cropped, short-sleeved iteration — or the borrowed-from-the-boys, tunic shape, as seen above.

I love this cut of boyfriend blouse with a pair of skinny jeans or trim ankle trousers and oxfords like these ones from J.Crew. Whether left slightly undone or buttoned up with a sleek silk bow from Saint Laurent (in love!!), a structured bag such as this Auxiliary by Aritzia Bega Satchel is a must.

Finally, I would touch off this classically stylish set with a pair of faux pearl earrings inspired by Dior (but oh-so affordable at less than $20!) by Tresor Creations.

There you have it, my top take on the white-hot oxford update!

You don't want to miss what Marissa put together, so head on over to her blog to take a look!

Happy Friday and thank you for stopping by.

White winter

Banana Republic turtleneck sweater

Regardless of whether or not the weather is finally allowing it to be spring, I'm already embracing white pants.

I love how much fashion has relaxed in recent years. No more rules about wearing white, mixing colours, or mixing prints. It's literally like we've thrown all the stiff, stuffy rules out the sartorial window.

And that's why I am a-OK with wearing snow white pants pretty much year round. That, and because I want to. #norules
