Cool cape

Coach blanket cape coat outfit blogger

Blanket capes and scarves were everywhere this winter season.

And because I was neither willing nor able to shell out the $1,600-some dollars for those oh-so covetable Burberry cape ponchos (you know the ones!) — I decided to opt for something a little more affordable.

I picked up this Coach version at a factory outlet store earlier this winter and have been so happy with it. It's stylish, cozy and, let's face it, at around $200, it has a much nicer price tag than its runway counterpart.

Sometimes I hate being so fiscally responsible. :P

Happy Friday and thank you for stopping by!

424 Fifth neoprene baseball hat

It feels like my outfit posts have been a bit few and far between lately, but bear with me, because they're coming.

I shot this look about a week ago on a particularly chilly day in the Fraser Valley — way too chilly for a mini dress.

But I was so eager to style this great spring Gap dress — and you know how it goes when you finally settle on a look that you're excited about — you've just got to wear it!

Paired with a sporty-luxe hat, black ankle boots and a whole lot of 90s influence, this scuba t-shirt dress is fun, flirty and surprisingly versatile.

Despite the frigid temps, I had a ton of fun shooting this athletic-inspired look. Check out a quick video I threw together from the day.

Today, I'm off to Palm Springs for a few days of rest and relaxation in order to celebrate my eldest sister's birthday. Be sure to follow along on Instagram!

Happy Wednesday and thank you for stopping by.

Vichy Homme Idealizer Multi-Action Moisturizer: A quick review

Vichy Homme Idealizer Multi-Action Moisturizer review

What it is: Vichy Homme Idealizer Multi-Action Moisturizer is a new cream for men that is available in two formulas: one for the burly bearded and one for the frequent shaver.

The lotions, when used post-shave, work to instantly soothe irritation, moisturize, and reduce signs of aging and fatigue. What is most unique about this lotion is that it helps improve overall ease and effectiveness of the next day's shave for smooth skin, or helps to moisturize beard hair for those with more to, well, manscape.

Beauty bonus: This lotion does not burn the skin when applied directly after shaving like most lotions. It has a subtle scent that won’t scare off even the most low-maintenance man.

Beauty bummer: Guys, don’t expect an immediate visible decrease in signs of aging and fatigue. This lotion requires a few applications to truly improve skin’s overall condition — but when it kicks in, it really shows.

Overall: This lightweight and refreshing aftershave lotion is a must for even the most demanding manscaper or bearded beauty.

Would recommend: Yes

Price: $25

Where sold: Shoppers Drug Mart

Note: Product testing conducted by my sisters' boyfriends. :P

Current mood: Friday faves

Fashion inspirational top images

It's finally Friday, and all I've got to say is #TGIF.

I'm heading to Palm Springs mid-week next week and I have serious pre-vacation brain.

You know what I'm talking about, right? When you stare at your computer screen for far longer than appropriate as you daydream about what you're going to be doing on your holiday. Ya, that has been me.

That's why I wanted to share a bit of my daydreaming in a roundup of Friday fashion fave images.

From messy buns to must-read books, my mind sets to wandering with this set of images. Dare to dream.

Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

After the Ball: Vancouver event

Le Chateau Midi dress and ankle boots with Celine Mini luggage bag

Le Chateau has been a big part of my blog in the past year.

The longtime Canadian retailer's collections seem to get better each season — and don't even get me started on their shoes.

So it's pretty cool to see the Montreal-based company partner with a major film such as After the Ball.

Starring Lauren Holly, Chris Noth (yes, THAT Chris Noth!) and Portia Doubleday, the movie is basically a fashion fairytale with a touch of romance — what's not to love about that?

I'm such a sucker for fun, fancy-free films at the best of times. But add in a hefty dose of (all-Canadian!) fashion, and I'm hooked.

Check out the trailer for After The Ball:

In support of the film's Feb. 27 release, Le Chateau is hosting several in-store concerts at locations across Canada — including one in Vancouver on Feb. 25.

Get all the details about the event below:

Le Chateau is also hosting a few great giveaways via social media, so be sure to check them out in advance of the film's release! Happy Wednesday and thanks for stopping by!

La Prairie Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil: A quick review

La Prairie Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil: A quick review

What it is: La Prairie Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal is a dry oil that instantly (seriously, instantly!) absorbs into skin to support the natural lipid barrier and help keep moisture in — and fine lines at bay — for a supple, more youthful look.

Beauty bonus: This oil absorbed faster and more completely than any other oil we've tried.

Beauty bummer: With great power comes a great price tag. So, be prepared to pony up!

Overall: This dry oil is quite remarkable.

When dispensed into the hand, it seemed a bit slick (it is oil after all!), but when applied to the face it, it felt exquisite. Skin felt fully moisturized — sans a greasy residue.  #itsamiracle

Would recommend: For an ultimate splurge, you bet!
Price: $365 (for a full size, sample product pictured)

Valentine's Day

Love is in the air — so I will keep this post short and sweet.

I know Valentine's Day isn't all about the gifts, but I think it's a great time, single or attached, to treat yourself to some red-hot thang. (Yes, I just wrote that.)

From a flowy pink dress, to delicate drop earrings — or my personal fave, this hibiscus-hued Mulberry tote(!) — here are my favourite treat-yo-self items for this lovely day.

Happy Valentine's Day, lovelies!

Turtleneck time

Turtleneck sweater and midi pencil skirt outfit idea

Here's another one of my favourite turtleneck sweaters. In fact, this one is the same Aritzia version last seen here — just in grey.

What can I say, I'm a creature of habit. :P

Anyway, the temperatures have been suspiciously spring-like in Vancouver the past few days, which has me a little bit panicked that my turtleneck-wearing days are coming to a close. Let's just say, I'm not quite ready for that yet.

But the good thing is, I'm headed to much colder temps next week (is that actually a good thing?!), so I will be able to don my beloved sweaters on the daily. #neverletgo

Happy Thursday and thank you for stopping by.

Benefit Roller Curl mascara: A quick review

Benefit Roller Curl mascara: A quick review

What it is: A new mascara with a "Hook 'n' Roll" brush that separates and curls lashes for a full 12 hours.

Beauty bonus: This mascara certainly delivers on its curl-setting claims.

Beauty bummer: The mascara was a teeny bit flakey by the end of the day.

Overall: This mascara is the real deal.

From the definition of virtually each and every lash, to the eye-opening eyelash curling — it's easy to fall in love with Benefit Roller Curl.

A quick curl with a lash curler and two coats of this product was all it took to achieve longer-looking lashes that lasted all day. (see below!)

A definite must-try.

Would recommend: Absolutely.

Grey wonder

Vancouver blogger grey wool coat

This grey wool coat is an MVP (or is it Most Valuable Coat!?) in my winter wardrobe.

It's one of those pieces that goes with everything — and almost always draws a compliment from someone each time I wear it. Which is a lot. Like, a lot a lot.

And want to know what's the best thing about this sleek topper? The price I paid. I scored it at the end of last season at HM for $20.  #score

In the market for your own iteration of this timeless classic? Shop a few of my fave grey wool coats below.

Brace yourself for another closet confession: I've also been living in turtlenecks lately.

I find them chic, cozy and oh-so easy to throw on. So consider yourself warned — my blog and Instagram feeds are going to be full of 'em for a while longer.

Happy Friday (cheers to the weekend!) and thank you for stopping by.

Blanket scarf remix

Wilfred by Aritzia Deconstructive blanket scarf outfit

Am I the only one who has been living in blanket scarves this winter?

Whether it's my basic black poncho version, or this amazing blue-hued deconstructive blanket from Aritzia, I just can't get enough of these oversized scarves.

I find them perfect when worn belted over a sweet sweater dress — or wrapped up tight as a neck brace when the winter weather really hits the fan ... ehem, as I'm expecting it to when I'm in Edmonton later this month.

But the best thing about a multi-coloured version like this one? It will look just as good during the grey days of winter as it will into spring. Bonus!
